College Football Top 10 10/10

A tumultuous Saturday reshaped the college football landscape, with number one Alabama losing handily to South Carolina. The big debate: who's the new number 1? Let's take a look:

Rank Team W L Rating SOS
1 Alabama 5 1 617.88 83.04
2 Ohio State 6 0 543.96 36.87
3 Nebraska 5 0 526.37 36.59
4 TCU 6 0 519.8 32.75
5 Stanford 5 1 472.39 74.53
6 California 3 2 467.64 77.31
7 Boise St 5 0 466.38 35.1
8 Oregon 6 0 442.98 36.46
9 Missouri 5 0 411.15 38.99
10 Arizona 4 1 385.04 73.22

What?!?! Alabama still number 1? They lost! Apparently, Alabama had played so well in the other games that the computer still says they're number 1. Do you really think Ohio State would beat Alabama right now? Maybe one fluke loss shouldn't be enough to ruin a team's national championship hopes.
Other interesting teams:

11 Iowa 4 1 351.58 33.78
49 Texas 3 2 70.6 43.11
50 Washington 2 3 70.11 116.64
65 Northwestern 5 1 51.41 19.67
399 Georgetown DC 3 3 0.62 0.85

Iowa, without playing a game, managed to drop 7 spots because their previous opponents did poorly. And Northwestern proved my low ranking true, much to Jimmy's chagrin. Next week the real action begins though as Iowa bites into the meat of the Big Ten schedule. And maybe Alabama can play like a number 1 team again.

  1. I really can't complain about NU's placement right now, but we'll improve. Where the heck is South Carolina, though?

  2. They're 13. I just did top 10 this week because I was thinking of putting my BCS compatible rankings up. Those'll probably be tomorrow though.
